CAIR-Cincinnati Announces Release of First of Four ‘Know Your Rights’ Videos (CINCINNATI, OHIO, 11/10/15) – The Cincinnati chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Cincinnati) today announced the release of the first of four short videos produced to educate members of the public about growing Islamophobia and about their civil rights in employment, in schools and in interactions with law enforcement authorities. The videos, which will be released one per week over the next month, were produced in response to the rising level of anti-Muslim bigotry, hate rhetoric, discrimination, and hate crimes targeting American Muslims and their religious institutions. CAIR says a rise in anti-Muslim prejudice created an urgent need to educate Americans of all faiths and backgrounds about their civil rights. The videos explain how to respond to and deal with discrimination in the workplace, bullying in schools or religious and ethnic profiling by law enforcement. [NOTE: This project was made possible in part by a grant from the Cincinnati Bar Foundation.] The video released today deals with Islamophobia. This is twice as high as the national average of students reporting being bullied at school. Dabdoub said CAIR has noted an increase in hate-motivated crimes and bias incidents nationwide targeting persons and property associated, or perceived to be associated, with Islam and the American Muslim community.
